we are the world we are the trash
we are the fines tickets penalties
that pile up in dustbin lives
ignored paper threats of final notices
sent to collections agencies
visited by repomen hauled away
in garbagetrucks firetrucks ambulances
in fits of schizophrenic rambling
relocated to dumps to found new civilizations
of cockroach cities and clown congresses
crackpot utopias dreamed up by insects
classless cooperatives of communist exfiltrators
formless anarchies of termites who eat away
at the foundations of capitalist republics
hollowing out the egos of supermen
collapsing stockmarkets decomposing economies
transforming the barren wastes of treasuries
into new soils new forests new oceans
blessed new ecosystems to inherit the earth
we are the trash blessed is the trash
blessed are we the useless freeloaders
dirtbags with bad credit perpetual students
dropped out of schools copped out of duties
bankrupt in business fired for cause
passed over pushed aside nowhere to go
queued in agencies filed for benefits
foreclosed on streets unemployed in shelters
hungry in foodbanks slept in cars
trespassing vandalizing occupying
the pleasureyachts of idle oligarchs
absentee landlords of the new world order
the corporate cashcows the neoliberal regime
tuned in to broadcasts of lawandorder blueboys
serveandprotect police beating us bloody
nights in jail for imaginary crimes
framed for hooliganism by tinpot attorneys
booked for loitering prosecuted for mischief
unrighteous citizens unstoppable in failure
and so we sail the garbagepatch seas
the cresting wave of the twentyfirst century
humanity’s failed experiment the apocalyptic lands
Anthropocene advancing just a blip at the end
late capitalism’s murmur on the universal timescale
after the endtime our species-consciousness will dissipate
into greenhouse gases amorphous floating atmospheres
carbondioxide temples reincarnated into fungi
empires of decomposition at one with the earthmind
a new era will dawn the age of the mousepeople
as continents dissolve into oceans of kelp
devolving millennia bringing algae and slime
then evaporating water leaving desiccated earth
just a galactic pitstop a planetary dumping ground
for alien spaceships on interstellar highways
a convenient detour in the milkyway swirl
pummeled by comets no more trace of humanity
a cold dead rock until the sun burns out
and a black hole vacuums our atomic remains
